Overview

What We Do
KC Shepherd's Center advocates for public policy and funding to support the growing population of older adults in Kansas City.  We educate and engage older adults in self-advocacy for the fullest participation in their rights in the democratic process.  KCSC works to amplify the voices of older adults, ensuring policies and programs support aging with dignity and respect. Our advocacy efforts focus on promoting independence, improving services, and protecting the rights of seniors in Kansas City and beyond.


Our Policy Priorities

We champion key issues to make life better for older adults in our community.

Property Tax Relief

  • Protecting older homeowners from being taxed out of their homes.
  • Promoting policy changes for equitable relief options.

Aging in Place

  • Supporting initiatives that enable seniors to live safely and independently in their own homes.
  • Advocating for accessible housing and home modifications

In-Home Services

  • Ensuring access to home health care, personal assistance, and supportive services
  • Promoting funding for programs that deliver critical services at home.

Senior Nutrition Programs

  • Advocating for increased funding and access to Meals on Wheels and other nutrition services.
  • Addressing food insecurity among older adults.

Caregiver Resources

  • Supporting unpaid family caregivers with resources and policy initiatives.
  • Advocating for respite care services and caregiver support programs.

Voter Access

  • Ensuring older adults have the ability and knowledge to vote.
  • Promoting voter registration, accessibility, and information on voting rights.
