The Value of a Hot Meal
KC Shepherd's Center is proud to be the organization that brought Meals on wheels to Kansas City in 1972. We have been delivering daily nutrition with a side of a smiling face at the door ever since. We now deliver over 200,000 frozen and hot meals to food insecure, low-income, isolated and homebound older adults each year in more than 60 zip codes across our community.
Kansas City has a significantly higher number of older adults experiencing hunger than the national average. 1 in 10 older adults in Kansas City do not have enough food to live healthy, as compared to 1 in 15 nationwide.
Since 2013, KCSC has also delivered pet food and supplies to our clients. When we learned that our clients were sharing their small meals with their pets, we went to work to partner with area animal welfare organizations who donate food and supplies for our clients.
Requirements to Become a Meals on Wheels Client:
- Be 60 or older or disabled
- Be homebound and/or otherwise isolated
