Carlos’ major objectives for the community are to encourage minority students through sports to excel in academia, and to encourage entrepreneurship in the minority community. He has been an entrepreneur in Kansas City since 1980, and his business visions excelled in the 1990s when he started Cascade Consulting Group. This led to the development of Cascade Sports, which focuses on minority students’ sports endeavors, and Cascade Media Group, which focuses on minority community leaders in all areas and professions. He is the founder of the Vine Street Merchants Association, co-founder of the Prospect Business Association and a founding board member of the Full Employment Council. He also initiated the first Cub/Boy Scout System in the KCMO School District. His nominator says that Carlos “has a strong commitment to community initiatives and he thrives on continuing what he has developed with the urgency of moving the community forward.”
