Carol & Eugene Suter
Carol and Eugene Suter, 75 and 74
When Carol and Eugene decided to move to the Northland of KC in 1993, they made a commitment to support their new community – and they are still making a difference to this day. Carol, an attorney, served for 13 years on the Gladstone City Council and as Mayor for two terms. She became a leader in promoting the development of a new downtown, including a new community center, Linden Square, a new hotel and more. At the same time, Carol served on the board of the Mid-America Regional Council and she is currently a member of the Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Clay County Economic Development Council and the Women’s Public Service Network. Eugene is a retired agribusiness executive and has been the Gladstone Road District Commissioner since 2014. He also served on the board for Clay County Extension Services and Gladstone’s Shaping Our Future Task Force. He currently serves on the board of the Friends of Atkins-Johnson Farm and Museum and created the Big Shoal Farm, a seven-acre community garden, as a fund-raiser for them. He received the Civic Leadership Award from the Missouri Municipal League in 2021, and Carol was named Northlander of the Year in 2022 and recently received the Outstanding Public Service Award from Northland Neighborhoods Inc.
