Charles Obermeyer
Charles Obermeyer, 81
It’s probably safe to say that no one has seen more artistic performances in Kansas City than Charles Obermeyer. Since he retired in 1998, he has devoted his life to community volunteering, primarily through ushering at performing arts venues. He has ushered at the Kansas City Symphony since 1998, the Folly Theater since 2005, the Kauffman Center since 2011, Quality Hill Playhouse since 2004, Unicorn Theatre since 2002, KC Rep since 2002 and Music Theater Heritage since 2004. He also has volunteered at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art since 2002, driving the shuttle cart in the Bloch Building. Charles says his work is “not entirely altruistic,” as he is able to attend all the performances at which he ushers, and he has collected the Playbills from every one of them.
