David J. Sullivan, 72
David J. Sullivan has been ArtsTech’s Founder and Executive Director since 1998. ArtsTech’s purpose is to better the lives of underserved urban youth through the development of marketable artistic and technical skills. Mr. Sullivan has been a national presenter and trainer on numerous substance abuse and violence prevention, mental health, and school safety issues. Prior to ArtsTech, Mr. Sullivan spent 21 years working for the DeLaSalle Education Center. Mr. Sullivan has been credited with assisting numerous community-based agencies and school districts in the creation of alternative education programs such as Alta Vista, among others. In 2000, Mr. Sullivan concluded a nine-month tenure as Interim Director for Project Neighborhood (formerly Ad Hoc Group Against Crime and Move UP). He received special recognition from the community for his leadership in assisting in the successful merger between these organizations. His nominator says, “David is most particularly known for his strong leadership, high-quality standards, loyalty, determination, resourcefulness, and dedicated ties to Kansas City youth and the community. David is a role model and trusted leader to many."
