Dr. Adrienne Walker Hoard, 75
Adrienne has influenced many in our community with her diverse artistic abilities and accomplishments as a painter, photographer, jeweler and scholar. She lives to create beauty and assist others in seeing the beauty in themselves and the world. She retired as the Director of the former Black Studies Program at UMKC after serving 31 years as a Professor in the University of Missouri System. She has been named in multiple citations, including The Washington Times, Ebony Magazine, the New York Times and the Smithsonian Magazine. She has authored 13 publications, most recently “Women of Power – Spirit Mask Series: 12 Faces of a North American African Woman.” She has participated in 17 juried exhibitions and residencies and in 15 invitational exhibitions. She has directed arts workshops hosted with the Walker Foundation in Kansas City, KS, opening opportunities in the arts for children and young adults.
