Dr. Lee Norman
Dr. Lee Norman, age 72
Lee is the Senior Medical Director of Optum Kansas City, the country’s newest OptumCare market. He is also a clinical faculty member at the KU School of Medicine and serves in the Kansas Army National Guard, having earned the rank of Colonel. His previous services have included being a family physician, a flight surgeon and a combat medical instructor with the U.S. Air Force. In 2018 Lee returned from a Middle East deployment as the 35th Infantry Division Surgeon in Operations Freedom Sentinel, Spartan Shield and Inherent Resolve. He has been awarded two Meritorious Service Medals and the Truman Foundation’s Philip Pistilli Silver Veterans Medal for military and civilian accomplishments. He also served as Secretary of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for three years and was the senior state health official leading the Covid-19 response. He enjoys reading, cooking, technical mountain climbing and collecting Alaskan Native art. He speaks throughout the metro area about defying the myths of aging. He also was named as Shepherd’s Center 2023 Prom King!
