Faye Johnson Kendrick, 74
“Ms. Faye,” as she is affectionately known, is the founder of D.A.V.E.’s Place Community Impact Center, a nonprofit outreach and extension ministry of Christian Fellowship Baptist Church Community Center in the Walnut Grove neighborhood community in South Kansas City, Mo. The center offers low-cost counseling services, a food pantry, a community garden, a household closet, financial classes and a transitional housing option for women seeking to regain stability after life-altering events. D.A.V.E.’s Place celebrated its 20th anniversary of service to the community this past May. The staff and volunteers share Faye’s vision of targeting the demonstrated needs of the neighborhood, constantly changing and expanding their services as needs arise. Faye is also active board member of the Footprints organization, offering services to veterans and individuals in recovery. She served 4 years as the Americorps VISTA Program Director. She sings in the choir at her church and also manages the financial office. Her nominator says, “Faye serves with enthusiasm everywhere she goes.”
