Janette Rushing

Janette Rushing, 76

Janette Rushing, has been a licensed therapist for many years, most recently as a college counselor at Highland Community College and in her own private practice. She is a licensed clinical social worker in both Missouri and Kansas, has a master’s in social work and a master’s in education, and completed a post-graduate fellowship in psychiatric social work at Yale University. Her nominator says, “Janette is so calm, measured and caring, and is there for anyone who needs help – all while quietly facing her own health struggles.” Janette and her husband Doug live at Bishop Spencer Place and say that their 18-pound dog, Marie, is the most popular resident at BSP. Janette also works with students at the Kansas City Art Institute. Janette says “One of my favorite sayings that I think is all about counseling: If you can’t stop the storm, learn to dance in the rain. That’s what I’m about – learning how to dance in the rain.”
