Kay Postma
Kay Postma, 70
There’s no way to estimate the number of homebound seniors who have received the food they need thanks to Kay Postma, who has been actively involved with KC Shepherd’s Center’s Meals on Wheels program for many years. She and her son Eric are the “dynamic duo” who arrive early every day at Resurrection Brookside to make sure meals are ready to be delivered – Kay serves as the door ambassador to let volunteers into the church and Eric helps the kitchen coordinator sort and pack the meals for the 14 routes delivered daily. They have responded to countless requests to fill in when needed, and they also used to pick up food for the pantry at the Methodist Church on Armour Boulevard. Kay has helped identify ways to lighten the load by using book dollies to move insulated bags from the kitchen to a vehicle. Her nominator says that Kay and Eric “quietly go about their volunteering, but they have certainly been an inspiration to me.”
