Millie Nottingham-Edwards
Millie Edwards, age 70
“The little woman with the big voice.” Millie Edwards is known throughout Kansas City as a regular on the Kansas City Jazz and Blues Circuit, frequently performs at some of the best clubs in town as well as in TV and radio ads. Throughout her career, she has performed nationally and internationally and has been featured on numerous albums. Millie started playing piano at age 4 and the viola at age 10 and says she was destined to become a musician. In addition to her vocal talents, Millie has a Master of Education degree and is the reading coordinator at Metropolitan Community College. In 2017 she received the Governor’s Excellence in Teaching Award. She generously gives back to her community, serving in various leadership roles with Harmony, a resource for the improvement of race relations. She donates her musical talents for a wide variety of fund-raising activities, including Hope House, Swope Parkway Health Center, the KC Free Health Clinic, Jazzoo and Bishop Spencer Place.
