Stephanie "Dee Dee" Lowland
Dee Dee Lowland, 80
Dee Dee began her career as a teacher and then became a stay-at-home mom. As her three children grew up she was very involved in their school, serving as president of the PTA. In 1976 she chaired the 3rd annual Kansas City-wide family fun event, “Possum Trot”. In 1978 she was one of the organizers of the George Brett Celebrity Golf Tournament to benefit ALS. When her husband moved the family to California she went to work for the National Office of The ALS Association as Vice President of Field Services and started 40 chapters nationwide. Since returning to Kansas City in 2003 she has worked and volunteered for several nonprofit organizations - Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy, Children’s TLC, Lead to Read, and most recently Uncover KC. Dee Dee’s way of sharing her passion for helping others was by creating “Née Nee’s Grand Givers” with her six grandchildren. They save their change throughout the year, pool their funds, and decide together (majority rule) the charities they will fund that year. Grand Givers is 12 years old.
